Our membership begins at age 12 and our oldest member is well into their 90s. Our population is diverse and that’s what makes our facilities unique. All our members have their own personal reasons for joining, whether it is to lose weight, to stay fit and maintain their current weight, to train for a big race, build strength, get healthy or just come and take a class and socialize with friends. Below are a few testimonials from our members sharing why they joined the Hunterdon Health & Wellness Centers.

Confidence Soars after Working with Personal Trainer

Diagnosed with a mild form of cerebral palsy as a baby, Abigail Conway’s life included a fair share of “probably won’t” and “never will.” Doctors warned her she would never be able to enjoy activities such as riding a bike or skiing. But after she started working with personal trainer Gigi Bruggeman at the Hunterdon Health & Wellness Center, Abigail’s strength and confidence soared. “She helped me become more physically active than ever in my life,” says Abigail, 25, who recently started a new computer programming job. “I would tell Gigi I didn’t think I could do something and she would say, ‘Try anyway,’” she adds. Abigail’s newfound capabilities have impacted her whole life. “It has changed the way I look and the way I walk,” she says. “It’s really changed the way I feel about myself.”

Individualized Training

Working with a personal trainer is one of the fastest, easiest, most successful ways to improve your health and fitness. “I have been practicing yoga with Carolyn Geiger for over five years and I decided to do some training with her to strengthen my core,” says Patti Sullivan of Lebanon. “Carolyn has developed an effective cardio and strength training program for me and individualized my training by setting reasonable goals and when met, makes getting to the next goal achievable. She has an incredible foundation of knowledge, really cares, and really wants her clients to succeed. I have seen an incredible improvement in both my strength and energy level.”

Putting Yourself First

When asked to provide a testimonial for Hunterdon Health & Wellness Center in Whitehouse Station, NJ, Ger McKnight jumped at the opportunity to provide information. “I have been a member for more than four years and have worked with Beth Merola specifically for most of that time,” says Ger. “I can truly say that being a member is one of the best things I have done to improve my health. I have struggled to maintain my health for some of this time, however, exercise and personal training provided me with an opportunity to prepare for surgery and recover faster and better. In addition, I am fitter now than I have been in a long time and am enjoying the outcomes of my program.” He continued, “I truly encourage anyone that has reached a point in their lives where they are able and willing to put themselves first. Join and consider a program that will improve your overall health. It is a commitment but so worth it. Even if you have others you care for, putting yourself first helps you be more successful. After all, we are not much use to others if we do not care for ourselves. Hunterdon Health & Wellness Center provides so many opportunities…there is something for everyone. Thanks to everyone who has supported me. I hope to continue as long as I am able.”

Working Out Speeds Surgery Recovery

With knee-replacement surgery in his future, Bob Schell figured getting stronger would improve his post-surgery recovery. “It made sense to strengthen the muscles around the knee before surgery,” says the 68-year-old retiree. Bob became a Hunterdon Health & Wellness Center member a few years ago, initially to improve his golf swing. For pre-surgery prep, he performed exercises recommended by the hospital rehab planner. Then he worked with personal trainer, Gigi Bruggeman for five weeks. “I had surgery Tuesday morning, walked around that afternoon and went home Thursday,” he says. “A month later, I walked all the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. I am more fit now than I have ever been.”

“I’ve had a great experience working with my personal trainer, Jim Brown. He is very knowledgeable about my back problems and creates a workout to fit my level of ability. He always has a positive energy that keeps me motivated to push through our sessions. Jim is flexible with scheduling and is very responsive to questions/concerns. I’m happy with my results so far and plan to continue working with him.”

Joann H.

“I have been training with Carolyn Geiger for over a year.  I am stronger, more flexible, and healthier overall as a result.  She knows when to push me and when to vary our routines.  I would recommend her as a personal trainer any day.”

Kristin K.

“As a mom of two young children and working full time, I needed a stronger commitment to getting back into the gym to work on a healthier lifestyle.  Having a weekly appointment with a personal trainer was the motivation I required.  I’ve been specifically working with Jim Brown and he has helped ensure the routine is custom to my personal goals, physical injuries, and busy work schedule!   In addition, Jim has helped encourage and push me to act on other healthy activities outside of our planned sessions (ie: additional cardio work and watching my diet).  I have successfully started my journey with the loss of 15 lbs. and I’m excited to continue the progress!”

Malte P.

“Every once in a while you make a decision that greatly impacts your life in a positive manner. Signing up for a personal trainer was one of those decisions for me. Jim Brown has in a very short period of time made a remarkable impact on my life. I now walk a lot easier and I am a lot more flexible. I’m able to do things I wasn’t able to do six months ago. I cannot recommend working with someone like Jim highly enough. He is incredibly knowledgeable about how muscles work with movement, and what to work on to alleviate pain and increase strength and flexibility.  Best of all he is results-focused and tailors your plan to what you need!”

“I have been a member of the Hunterdon Health & Wellness Center since it opened in 1998. I continue to enjoy my membership because of the quality of personnel, their advice, the services and the quality of the equipment available for my use. I have utilized the classes, free weights, weight and fitness machines and services such as massage therapy. My wife has also utilized the physical therapy office when she was recuperating from a broken arm. I cannot think of any other facility that I would rather utilize for me and my wife’s fitness and wellness needs.”

Bob & Lillian L.

“When we joined, we could not begin to imagine how the Hunterdon Health & Wellness Center would affect our lives. There have been a variety of options afforded us. In the beginning, we were still “young” and into fitness and working out. After Bob’s total knee replacement, he went to physical therapy here. This was followed up with just plain walking in the pool. Next, Bob joined the Cardiopulmonary Rehab Phase III, which works out three days a week. The HHWC not only offers physical therapy, but it also offers a “mental” therapy due to its friendly, warm and relaxed atmosphere. Many friendships have developed over the years and we are certain they will continue for years to come. Even though our needs and reasons for joining the HHWC have changed over the years, we are very thankful that Hunterdon Medical Center chose Whitehouse Station for its original ‘Wellness Center.”

Frank C.

“I highly recommend the Wellness Center to anyone interested in a wellness program. The facilities are well maintained, up-to-date and upgraded equipment is added on a regular basis. The member’s health and safety are a priority. The staff is highly professional and very friendly, many of them have been working since the facility opened. Whether one is interested in weight control, cardio health, group exercises, weight lifting, aquatics, aerobics, yoga, health seminars, etc., all are available at this club. The Wellness Center’s association with the Hunterdon Medical Center provides a level of interest in the individual that is not often found in a health club. It is a fun place to work out.”

“When I joined, I was unfit and intimidated to go to classes based on previous experiences. At the Hunterdon Health & Wellness Center, every instructor is so wonderful. It’s such a positive experience. I love the cleanliness, the atmosphere, and can’t say enough good things about it. Everyone is there for you. I’ve belonged to other clubs and this one is by far the best one I’ve joined. This has been life-changing for me and it’s now just a part of my day.”
